United Methodist Women
The United Methodist Women meet on the fourth Sunday of each month (after morning worship services). The meeting follows a lesson plan previously designed, that includes Bible Study (with a focus on designated scriptures) In addition, business matters and missions are discussed. Fellowship is always enjoyed. Those members not in attendance because of infirmities or illness are remembered thru phone calls, cards, and visitations.

Quiet Day Service – A Call to Prayer and Self Denial: Creating Communities Through Information Technology – Members of the community and other churches are invited to participate. Stories of mission areas around the world and areas in need in the United States. After the service an agape lunch is eaten in silence until the President breaks the silence. It was very well attended.
Annual Spring Prayer Breakfast Good Hope Union UMC. Donation to Mission - $1,356.47
Annual Doll Tea sponsored by Church Women United. Members made - Lap robes for Nursing Home residents and pillows for the comfort of breast cancer patients. Dolls and stuffed animals were purchased in a variety of attire for presenting to needy children and Nursing Home residents.
Baby Shower – several items of clothing and other items will be generously donated to Storks’ Nest at Hunt Place Health Clinic (facility serving under privileged mothers) located in NE Washington, DC. ( Items will be collected at the September Meeting)
Used eye glasses were collected and donated to Chi Eta Phi Sorority for donation to the Lion Club. The glasses will be recycled for use in the United States and other countries.
Annual Senior Picnic – this was attended by members, friends and the community. This was held indoors, a variety of food and desserts was served, and attendees participated in fun games.
Mission U– Renee Manago Griffin and Joyce Harris represented the Unit by attending.
Washington-Columbia District United Methodist Women’s Annual Meeting – Renee’ Manago Griffin, Edna Grayson and Gail Cook represented the Unit and received our recognition as a Five Star Unit and a Silver Award Mission Today Unit.
In December the United Methodist Women has an opportunity to fellowship with other members of the congregation and guests. Nomination of a deserving member(s) from the Congregation who have rendered distinguished services in a variety of capacities throughout the year; is acknowledged and presented with a service pin.
Contribute can goods to the food pantry Randall Memorial UMC.
We were recognized by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc, Beta Zeta Graduate Chapter for support of their work with the Stork’s Nest. The sorority in partnership with the March of Dimes has operated the Stork’s Nest at the Hunt Place Clinic for almost twenty five years. Our help encourage many mothers to seek early and continuous prenatal care.
